Assoc Prof Alex Ades is a specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist accredited by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologist (RANZCOG), the Health Insurance Commission (HIC) and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Assoc Prof Ades is an extensively trained and experienced surgeon who has been involved in public and private practice as well as academic tertiary education for almost 20 years. His formal qualifications include a Masters and PhD of Medicine. Assoc Prof Ades currently works at The Royal Women’s Hospital, lectures at the University of Melbourne and treats private patients at Frances Perry House, Epworth Richmond and Epworth Freemasons hospitals.
He has a special interest in the surgical treatment of conditions such as endometriosis, uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, genital prolapse and urinary incontinence among others. Having evolved from traditional open surgery to laparoscopic (keyhole) and most recently robotic surgery, Assoc Prof Ades is constantly training and up skilling to ensure his patients the latest state of the art medical resources. The use of minimally invasive techniques has reduced the surgical trauma and markedly improved patient recovery allowing for a much prompter return to their day-to-day activities.
Assoc Prof Ades is an expert on the treatment of cervical incompetence and is one of the most experienced surgeons in Australia and internationally on Laparoscopic Transabdominal Cerclage.
He is very passionate about teaching. He has set up continuous medical education courses in Women’s Health for General Practitioners. He lectures at the University of Melbourne and participates on the surgical training of future specialists at the Royal Women’s Hospital. He and two other colleagues have created a 12 months long training position for subspecialisation in minimally invasive gynaecological surgery in their private practices. The position has been very successful and sought after. Applications for the job have been received from all over the world. Assoc Prof Ades is also actively involved in clinical research, having presented in medical conferences and published several studies in medical journals
