Dr Jennens is a medical oncologist with a particular interest in the treatment of breast cancer. He also treats other cancer types such as lung cancer, brain tumours and gastrointestinal cancers. He graduated in medicine from the University of Melbourne in 1995 and completed advanced training as a specialist medical oncologist at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and Royal Melbourne Hospital. He consults at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and works in private practice at Epworth Richmond.
Dr Jennens attends regular multidisciplinary meetings with surgeons, radiation oncologists, pathologists and radiologists to discuss optimal management of his patients. He lectures in oncology to junior doctors training to become specialists. He has a strong commitment to clinical trials, which can allow his patients early access to new medications and help the efforts of scientists and researchers worldwide improve treatments for cancer. He is the principle investigator for multiple clinical trials at Epworth Healthcare.
His focus is to ensure patients get optimal care at each stage of their cancer journey. This includes receiving the latest medical treatments as well as access to clinical trials of new medications. Dr Jennens works closely with dietitians and psychologists, as holistic care includes assessing diet and exercise, and the psychosocial implications from a diagnosis of cancer, for both the patient and their family.
